📖 This Week's Story

Today we're going to learn about how Mary and Joseph got ready for the very first Christmas - the birth of baby Jesus! Long ago, in the town of Nazareth, lived a young woman named Mary. One day, God sent the angel Gabriel to visit her with amazing news. The angel said, 'Do not be afraid, Mary! God has chosen you to be the mother of His son, Jesus.' Mary was surprised but said yes to God's plan. Around the same time, Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, a kind carpenter. When Joseph learned about the baby, an angel visited him in a dream too, telling him that this baby was very special - He would be the Savior! Can anyone tell me what we call the time when we prepare our hearts for Jesus' birthday? That's right - Advent! Just like Mary and Joseph had to prepare, we prepare too. Soon, Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem for a census. It was a long, difficult journey, especially for Mary who was about to have her baby. When they arrived in Bethlehem, all the inns were full. The only place they could find was a stable with animals. That night, in that humble stable, baby Jesus was born! Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger filled with soft hay. In our Maronite tradition, we remember this holy night with our beautiful nativity scenes. Can you imagine how Mary and Joseph felt holding the Son of God? They prepared their hearts with love, just as we do during Advent. The lesson for us is simple: just like Mary said 'yes' to God, and Joseph trusted God's plan, we can prepare our hearts for Christmas by praying, being kind to others, and remembering that Jesus came to bring us God's love.
